I presume the quality of fuel comes into the argument? Abroad 101RON is standard, and cheaper, than the standard 98/95 available here?
There was a time when 2 star petrol was available.
I recall driving back from Germany to the Uk, and filled up in France on 101 RON, and j14 just south of Stoke, to j23 Haydock, the fuel lasted, and the low fuel light came on. That's got to be 60 miles? On quarter tank? In a sportscar 2.0 litre engine, 187bhp? It did over 150mph on the autobahn...but I wasn't looking at the speedo...I was busy crapping myself, and watching the wobbling bonnet. And lightness of steering. Splitters help handling.
