It's not about approving..

This was something I read this morning from Lewis Hamiltons profile a high percentage of his followers are up in arms about his comments as of late none of them responding with hate but with feelings of disappointment and hypocrisy. Its a growing sentiment. See a snippet below whilst we refer to Colston.

"There is no such thing as Black History Lewis. There is just history. It is a simple factual progression that is often distorted by the perspective of the teller. The Colston statue may be inappropriate by our modern world view but in his day he was successful and admired. His wealth was invested in good works, schools and universities, almshouses for the poor, public and civic buildings. He invested in society. Maybe I will have more respect when I see your riches reinvested in hospitals, schools and society not in offshore havens like Monaco."
Very Good Point VERY well made.

...
Compare that to the stats for alot of black families where the boys grow up without their fathers which in turn causes them to go off the rails.. .
Can you show us these stats that form your opinion?

Just like Churchill , and others, (as mentioned by Noseall, and JohnD, I think) they were racist at times in their life.
For sure, they went on to do great things, but at certain times in their lives, they displayed undeniable racist attitudes.
Many argue that they modified their attitude in later life, due to their subsequent life experiences.

deflection.

answer this:

do you think this plaque is acceptable:

“Erected by citizens of Bristol as a memorial of one of the most virtuous and wise sons of their city.”
He made a lot of money, lawfully, and gave much of it back in good causes...Move on 350 years, forget the good and judge him by 21st century laws...Laws and attitudes are constantly evolving and I do not think it wise to destroy historical monuments, whether it is there or not will not change idiots, and I think it best to leave them and educate people, not destroy and cover it up.Off topic yes,,, but Holocaust denial etc,, would be so much easier if all evidence was destroyed.

I tried looking for the quote that you provided. Can you provide some source for it, please?

I did find this, and found it quite profound:
"I don’t know what’s more disturbing - the fact that in 2020 we have to debate that racism should end or that some people are denying racism exists.
