I would've thought such statues would be the opposite of homophobic
You're speaking phallicaly, of course.
( I was looking for a word something along the lines of philophallicaly, or pseudophallicaly, but they don't exist........yet)

Says one Phallic to another (y)

Quite right conny. But I do believe no-one is trying to or wants to change history.
We can learn form history, but the only way we'll do that is if the history is re-written from a fair and impartial viewpoint, warts and all.
No that's living in the past. Everywhere I visit now is so focused on diversity and equal opportunities to the nth degree. Have you seen the induction process for most hr departments nowadays its light years away from 10 20 30 years ago. We have learnt from our past already. Problem is some people just cant let go of it. Some look to the future and how we are improving and not blaming the past..all these so called racist figures and statues are nothing to do with today's society.
Today's germans are nothing to do with yesterdays Nazi

statues are nothing to do with today's society.
hence why they shouldnt be there as a monument of pride

We shouldnt erase our history, but we should make sure it is honest:

Colstons plaque said this, its rather one sided:

“Erected by citizens of Bristol as a memorial of one of the most virtuous and wise sons of their city”.

Some look to the future and how we are improving and not blaming the past
thats why the George Floyd event have lead to worldwide protests -people want to make a change for the future.

Problem is some people just cant let go of it
thats because racism still exists.

Ive never been keen on that approach -Its hard to instill a culture of diversity without setting rules, but its peoples minds we need to change not just corporate ones.

I think the point the OP is making is we need to judge how people lived their lives according to acceptable morals and laws of the day. That makes sense, but at the same time we should also move forward where we accept that how things were, was not right. I'm not really a great fan of statues anyway, so maybe find something useful and functional to put up. Hopefully not some overpriced modern art.
