adapters for taps in kitchen

I rent an old house, the taps are very old and so is all the other plumbing.
I need new taps (ones with threads so I can connect my portable dishwasher) but the plumber told me that I would have to replace all of the pipes bacause they are not the right size and there will be no new taps that fit them.

Is there any short cut that I can use? Maybe some kind of adapter? It's not my house so I don't want to spend too much on renovations.

In the UK you could use a self-cutting tap which screws over a copper pipe.
