Seems like our boiler has finally packed in today. Had issues last winter and was warned by the engineer parts are difficult to source so a replacement could be on the cards.

We have a potterton powermax 155 which is throwing an a01 and a07 faults. Anyone know how fixable these are?

If a replacement is needed would you opt for a decent power combi or a conventional boiler with a pressured cylinder? We have a four bed house around 2350 sqft with three bathrooms. Boiler is currently in the garage with all bathrooms on first floor. Don’t want to get stiffed by British Gas and plan on being in this house some time so want to make sure we make the right choice.

Definitely a separate boiler & cylinder in a house that size. Current boiler's faults could be down to faulty electrodes, faulty gas valve, or blocked condensate trap.

Thanks for the response. Will see what they say Wednesday and take it from there.

Any standout makes / models when it comes to conventional boilers?

I'd spec an Intergas ECO RF or Xclusive coupled to a Joule Cyclone High Gain cylinder in an X-plan hot water priority setup. This will give you fast cylinder heat up times (allowing your cylinder to be smaller) and an OpenTherm compliant boiler which will, with with the right controls, give you great efficiency savings on your heating. Both models are multifunction boilers - they are sold as combis but a quick parameter change in the installer settings turns them into a conventional system boiler - and you get a 12 year warranty when fitted with an Intergas magnetic system filter.

You won't get that from BG though, you'll need a decent installation company who understands more advanced boilers & system setups. Post up your location (nearest town will do) and we might even be able to recommend someone
