Hi everyone, a couple of quick questions for you :)

1) At the moment, all we have in our house is a cable running straight from the aerial, through the wall, into the back of the TV, no aerial socket as such. We want to have 2 new aerial sockets put into 2 of the bedrooms. We have been quoted a price of £200-£220 to get this done and a further £230 from another "Aerial Technician". Does this sound about right for this? This is with all labour, cables and sockets. We will be leaving the main downstairs one just coming through the wall essentially. Obviously this all depends on our signal strength being strong enough.

2) The other question is basically when we bought the house 2 months ago the surveyor said "it could do with a rewire". This iss obviously quite a high priority. We have just ha d akitchen installed so we know that everything in there is okay. We have a 3 bed end terrace with alot of plugs and light swithces etc. We know 2 of the plugs are not in good shape and do fuse the system so we do not use them. We know a reqire is needed, is it possible to get one done excluding the kitchen as this was all tested at time of installation?

Also with the rewire it looks like a very expensive job to get done (from looking at other posts) - but what do you actually get for it all? Will the engineer move/add plugs/switches at your request?

Thanks for any help :)

If you have an engineer rewiring your house then it's going to cost you a small fortune so you would be better off asking an electrician ;)
Average cost for a 3 bed terrace would be around the £2500 mark depending on your requirements. It should be up to you (regulations permitting) on the number of sockets / switches / lights etc and their positioning.

With regards to the cost of fitting a booster and wiring, does the 'Aerial Technician's' ( ) cost include a new digital aerial?

Yes it does include a new digital aerial (aren't these only around £30 anyway?).

Thanks for pointing out it would be an electrician :) Would they be happy to not have to do the kitchen seeing as it is brand new?

Depends how it's been wired. Kitchen fitters and five day wonders make terrible electricians.

Did the kitchen fitter actually rewire the kitchen fully or just move/add a few sockets then test it? If he only added then the bulk of the wiring may still need attention. Even if it was tested and verified as ok, seeing as the rest of the house is about goosed, then how long before this goes also?

The price you've been quoted sounds about right to me, I certainly wouldn't do it for any less and I can't imagine that anyone with the right experience, using decent quality parts and making a good job of it would charge any less.

For example, at trade price a decent quality distribution amp might be £15/20, £2 for outlets, £15 for good quality CT200 cable, new antenna, boxes, plaster, labour... it soon adds up.
