Hi there, I am a complete novice with plumbing but hopefully this is a problem that even I can fix

There was some works on the watermain outside my house yesterday during which there was a period without water.

My cold water supply in my kitchen tap is now not working. If left for a period of time there will be a little flow which runs out quickly. Also my shower (which is an electric Mira Supreme 8.4) has stopped working too, it lights up and I can hear the motor but no flow comes through.

The hot water supply is fine, the cold water in the bathroom sink and toilet is fine also.

My system is fed from a tank in the loft, I havent checked it, which I can only assume is ok as the bathroom taps are running fine.

Can anyone help with a simple solution?

Thanks
Stew

Sounds as if the waterboard have disrurbed the pipework and has allowed some s**t to block the mains cold water stoptap. The solution depends on how you are at DIY.

Either isolate at road and remove the incoming stoptap and clean or:

Try giving it a few gentle taps while you have the kitchen tap open and see if you can free the blockage.

Not 100% sure where the responsibility will lie as per the water board. You could try giving them a call and telling them that they have not re establish your supply following the work they did. You may find they'll send someone out for you.

That water in your bathroom will soon runout! so ration it wisely!
Call the water board, they may still have the water off or as mentioned allowed a blockage to occur, either way they need to sort it. Check with neighbours to see if their water has been re-established.
