I'm about to start wiring a residential property to install a new alarm and was after some advice about what cabling to install.. from reading these forums it seems the general consensus is to install 8 core everywhere to allow adding extra devices to zones or to have spares in case there is a problem with some of the cores. But I wondered about whether I should install screened or unscreened cable and why?

Cheers!

it is unlikely you will need screened cable if you follow best practice, so 8 core should be the minimum you require.

keep well away from electrics etc, make so there is no pressure on the cable (seen some round cables as thin as a sheet of paper(well almost), there is plenty information out there for you to make an informed choice about your installation options.
