Hi,

First post. Thanks to all the regular contributors who have provided answers via a quick search or two in the past....

Had problems getting main burner to light on our alpha 240p combi this weekend. A simple clean up of the insides as directed by the service manual and its going again now...BUT... previous work on the boiler has damaged the fittings of the casing a bit, and I have not been able to tightly re-fasten on the "room sealed chamber" panel. It was loose as I found it and tbh the design of the panel fixings is pretty flawed with corrosion clearly knackering the clip and screw fittings. Am going to get someone who knows the model to give it a full service, but in the short term would be really grateful for a view on how important a tight seal on this panel is for safe operation over the next day or two.

Thanks,
R

Nobody is going to tell you anything other than, turn it off till it's sorted.even though as you say, you have been using it with a loose cover unknowingly.

Thanks. The reply I expected!

Would be interested if anyone had any experience with this problem - the clips that the screws fasten into corroding and breaking - meaning there is no easy way to securely fasten cover. Had a quick look on a few parts sites and nothing listed as its more of a stuctural(!) than a mechanical part issue.

All boiler blokes will have a box full of those things (as well as the knowledge and means to test the seal afterwards)!

Speed clips or spire clips are what they are called.

sort of u shaped metal things.

B&Q will sell them....slide of old ones, slide on new ones.

Then get it checked over.

Never serviced an Alpha yet where at least 2 or 3 of them disintegrate when you CC cover is removed
