Is there an alternative to 10mm Twin and Earth that is more flexible in design for a cooker connection (outlet plate to cooker) but satisfies the relevant regulations?

It is called 'flex' - flexible - cable. You will want 3-core.

If the MCB on your cooker circuit is 32A then 4mm² will be adequate; if it is 40A or 45A then 6mm².

Ideally heat and oil resistant - H07RN-F - but not essential.

N2XH-J Flame Retardant LSZH Power Cable is one example of a round cable, however in real terms it depends what your local supplier has in stock.

Thank you. The MCB is 32A but I'm fairly certain the Twin and Earth from the consumer unit to the cooker outlet socket is 10mm. It is the old colours and live, neutral and earth cores are all stranded cable.

6mm² will be the right size. Some manufacturers even list 4mm² as big enough but stick with 6mm.

When the size of the flex, of the short length to the cooker is specified, it is usually a size down from the fixed wiring.

Due to short length.

No it isn't. It depends on the current.

Most cooker installations have a larger than necessary cable because that is what was necessary for rewireable fuses and people still do it because that is what was necessary for rewireable fuses therefore the necessary cable is not as large.
