bought a late polo for my daughter, my name on the log book, she, second driver, 19, past her test last yearish 18 mths, insurance for both, £900,anyway, changed insurers over time, because we both have the same surname, it suddenly dropped considerably.got into a conversation with her, she went on the net, applied for insure with another firm, and she honestly didn't know what "spouse" meant, so, she said spouse, well, i now pay less than £300 for us where do you think we stand with an accident,???? being honest myself, another loophole

Don't do it Libby!

Spouse is husband or wife in the eyes of most insurers. I checked once when I was hoping a girlfriend could be a spouse and at the time they told me no, you had to be married.

I know some companies relax the rules a little and a spouse can now be a partner, girlfriend, boyfriend etc.. but in your case no way!! I can't see any way they would consider a son or daughter to be a spouse.

Get it changed! Insurance companies hate paying out at the best of times. don't give them an excuse.

If the accident is her fault, you'll be absolutely screwed:

1. Liability for all costs, including 3rd party.
2. No cover for any damage to your car.
3. No medical cover for any injuries to your daughter.

Plus, if the police are involved, then prosecution, fine and license endorsement, and higher insurance premiums for several years.

and youll be permitting her to use the car with no insurance as you know its invalid so you could be prosecuted as well.

Having issued an insurance certificate for the car, the insurer is obliged to meet claims from 3rd parties, however they may take the policy holder to court afterwards!

The rest of your points are spot on, lack of cover for you and your own vehicle is a likely outcome, and so is prossecution for lack of insurance!

This policy is three yrs old, i feel , with no money some times, you have to take risks,as we do every day of our lives, crossing the road, climbing a ladder, the system, government do it evey day to me and you, rant.

my daughter may be my wife, as far as the insure are concerned

thanks adam.

Can you tell me which law obliges an insurance company to honour that aspect of a policy, when the policy in question is based on incomplete or false information?

This policy is three yrs old

I renew My policy every year, how can a policy be three years old?

Do you mean you have been doing this for three years, if so I hope you get caught.

I am sick and tired of people driving without tax, insurance and MOT's I pay over a £1,000 a year for my vehicles to be kept on the road in a legal state and believe if you cant afford to pay for all of the above then DON'T OWN A CAR.

How load will you scream when you get hit by an un-insured driver.......

I'm sure this is the second post that you have made regarding the insurance [or lack of] whilst driving...
