Another BG saga

I suspect that a lot of perfectly servicable but older boilers will be replaced because BG do not stock the parts...Heard that from quite a few customers.

Bg stock more parts in the national distribution center than anyone, but that is only one of the supply sources, they also use manufacturers direct and hrpc etc

I'm not au fait on unvented tanks, but do they not have a 10 year guarantee and are they not a pretty recent introduction to the UK? in which case a reasonable number of failed unvented tanks will still be under warranty. BG would simply ship them back to the manufacturer for a replacement...No?

I'm sure alot are covered but the vast majority in my area are now around 25 years old.

As in all of these cases the accountants are in charge, to many big companies, market share is more important to them than profit...At the moment.

True.

Perhaps I should rephrase that.. BG SAY the parts are not stocked by them.. I went to my local Parts Center and bought the part off the shelf.

I guess it is entirely down to the guy on the ground..

So many times is see on here people saying BG said part not available to there contract customers now if that genuinely happens and the part is available from one of the major parts providers BG will refund money spent and reasonable cost for fitting it. And i am not on about a part that has been lying at the back of a shelf or shed for years.

So how many of those on here that say this happens regular have wrote letters for customer confirming parts fitted and proof of purchase so customer could claim money back.

Example of how BG works with contract customers . I as an independent go to price up a system upgrade where i am going to change the cylinder to match current regs. On looking at it the existing cylinder is leaking.. To save customer the money i contact local BG manager tell him cylinder is leaking.
They then supply customer with a new cylinder which i then fit as part of my job .
BG saves on installation cost
Customer saves £200+ because most people would have charged and not mentioned it.
I benefit because it has not made my job any harder only a 5 min phone call and customer thinks i am the bizz for saving them money.

The idea with the tank / other failed components is a good one and I shall try it in future, thank you.

The issue of contacting BG after the repair, although I can see being in favour with the customer for saving them a few bob, is new to me as I have never seen/ read a BG contract but I shall use it in future..It is a little irksome however that I must repair what their guy didn't when not too long ago, they were advertising themselves as the professionals... suggesting therefore that we are not

Twgas Used to know old guy personally but not the new one but still works the same.
As for paying for repairs it must be genuine and not just customer phoning you direct they must have said obsolete etc etc for what is clearly not.

and not only that but if it is under ten years old BG would be highly unlikely to bother looking for a warranty replacement anyway. the manufacturer will look for ways to get out of warranty claims and nearly always succeed. sacrificial anode was always the favourite but i had one refuse because they know BG dont "service" the cylinder to their procedures anyway.

its nearly always down to the engineers laziness. 10% will be down to office monkeys laziness/stupidity and the rest will be down to the national disruption centre's ludicrously complicated computerised nonsense.

they are having massive problems with out of stock parts which are probably there but the system just doesnt know it. if it isnt there its because the system hasnt reordered it.

if its obsolete the part may still be available on shelves in various places around the country but not for long. if its a rarely ordered part then it will probably be available but can take up to 10 days to order, then another 10 to deliver.
