Another of those radiators hot but no hot water questions!

Hi,
I have a Baxi bermuda inset 3 which appears to be working perfectly well with regards to heating. We have had some little bits and bobs done around the house such as replacing our kitchen taps and the replacement of some radiators but nothing what I would have thought could have caused an issue. It wasn't that long ago that work was done however we have had hot water since.

The last few weeks we have noticed that no hot water comes out of the tap, the flow is very good and has no issues, all the pipes around the cylinder seem hot and the pump seems to be pumping ok.

Now I have no clue whats what when it comes to central heating so I'd really appreciate your advice on what could be at fault. We have just come back off holiday and also have an electric shower in the house so it hasn't caused too much of a concern but with myself and my wife working away most of this week getting a plumber in isn't that convenient.

One last thought, maybe unrelated but our shower (the non electric one) for the last couple of years takes around 5-10 minutes for hot water to come out, even if there is loads of hot water and with it being on the ame floor as the hot tank and about 15 feet in distance.

Is the cylinder hot.

Sounds more like a backflow problem to me, which is why I ask.

Have you had new mixer taps or showers fitted.

Hi yes recently new mixer taps in the kitchen, the kind that has the pull out nozzle. I seem to have got it temporarily working now as well, first hot water for ages, not sure what I have done but there is white box near the cylinder white sits in the piping after the pump,it has a switch on the front, not like a button but more like an automatic switch, well I messed around with that, not sure if that was just chance but it seems to have done the trick although I do believe I have been here before as my wife has just reminded me.

Run the hot tap until the pipe is hot, then open the cold as well, does the pipe go cold straight away.

sorry I'm not the sharpest blade in the tool box. When you say run the hot tap until hot , are you saying on the mixer tap as there is only one lever so can only allow either hot or cold only. or am I'm missing something !

apologies for sounding so dim.

btw I just ran the hot water in the kitchen it took approx 1 1/2 minutes for hot water to come out, when it came out it was hot.

The "white box" you mention. The pipe into this comes from the pump, after this does it then connect to the cylinder, about halfway up the side?

You can turn the handle to hot or cold.

When you say 11/2 mins is that before the water came out or hot water.

I wont question doitall's advice as he knows far more than me. Im just working on the theory you may have a stuck motorised valve on the hot water circuit, you are manually opening it, allowing the cylinder to be heated from the boiler.

I'm just assuming from what he said, he has hot water in the cylinder but not the taps.

Between us we should be able to help the guy out I hope! At least we have some with manners who speaks English, so cant be bad!

You did ask earlier if the cylinder was hot, hooray999 we need to know this before advising any further I think.

Hi all again, sorry have been worjking away, not ignoring you so apologies there !


Well, as I mentioned the other day we managed to get hot water that day and it appears that if I mess with the so called white box I can some how coax it into prioducing hot water.So basically obviously the switch on there is broken so to replace I can call in my local plumber, something he could have diagnosed pretty quickly I think but at least I can say I managed to do it myself (with your kind help) .

So all I need to know now though is....

1. what the heck is that white part (would a picture help? )

2. Are they easy/hard to fit?
