The Russians are paranoid about getting invaded, they suspect the west and the Americans are using former soviet states to site their missiles not to counter a threat from Iran as they claim but to target Russia itself.
Two world wars started in Eastern Europe, WW3 will probably start there as well.

The Yanks telling another country not to invade, in the light of Iraq and WMD, they are the last ones to be dishing out advice.
Been watching various news channels on Sky , ie Fox, Russia, Al Jezera, BBC, etc, it's quite amazing the different slant each one gives on the conflict.

Innocent victims are victims no matter where they come from, the images on TV could be from any conflict Iraq or Georgia whats the difference.

Every time there is a major war positive things happen.
1- New medical break through happens like limb replacement and robotics are becoming more agile
2- State of the art cameras are made like the color one I bought in 1999 that has a built in locater for checking sewer lines started as a military development and later on fire departments used in when earth quakes toppled buildings
3- Dictatorships tumble means less genocide like Saddam , Hitler, Pol Pot, etc.
4- Faster and better airplanes are built and trickle down to civilian use
5- Faster ships /safer....UNLIKE the Titanic as look how amazing the Bismark was taking out heavy cruisers etc.
Because of German engineering able to sink other ships quite easily water tight integrity became an important aspect in the shipping industry because of war and seeing large ships going down very quickly damage control became an important issue.
Look at the USS Enterprise how it was bombed and still was able to be placed back into the war where she did an outstanding job, the BIG E and her amazing dedicated crew.
We learned what not to do seeing how the German fleet with the subs did some amazing feats of stopping shipping
6- More jobs are created rebuilding countries such as Japan, Germany and England and now the world trade towers
7 - Much better rifles are built like the Barrett 50 caliber which like most military firearms like the 7.62 x 39 Russian SKS /Saiger trickle down to civilian use for deer hunting at a low price ammo
8-NBC warfare is being fine tuned as they get rid of the Nuclear part the biochemical and biological warfare can save cities as it is non destructive and will leave structures intact and only take out living organisms.
War helps build world wide economy with uniforms being made, tanks, rifles, Flags, helicopters, rockets, more nurses trained, foreign aid given to the losers to help rebuild and quality of life normally is for the better.
Do not always look at the negative aspects.
This is not like England is attacking Scotland and getting their Arse kicked then having their asses kicked by the colonies and then later on by the Irish and by the Germans.
The Scots were out numbered 5 to one did an outstanding job saving their country, peasants fighting a trained army goes to show you when one wants freedom bad enough and has the arms to do what is necessary.
So much for valiant knights fighting farmers
Look how far England came by learning after so many,many defeats now she is almost a world power all because after all the wars mother England got into the Brits are again able to sail the seas proudly.
If there was no war then all countries would be under one world leader which is bound to happen within the next three generations any how so why make a big deal about it as no one is getting out of here alive any how.
