isnt that the ear thing out of star trek:the wrath of kahn? :?

tried do do some with little daytona.nothing happened despite doing everything it said, what did you do?

it's a triops..

it's a type of shrimp.. also called the shield shrimp..

the eggs lay dormant in dried up ponds etc waiting for rain.. then they spring to life..

did you happen to use tap water in your tank? they don't like tap water.

distilled water is preferable, or spring water.. nothing with chlorine in it..

leave the water to "breathe" for a day before putting the eggs in..

We used distilled to "hatch" them, then moved them into a tank with Organic Highland Spring water, no less...

ah bless, has it got a name?

must give hours of fun and entertainment......how the long dark evenings must fly by in the securespark household

But what do you do with them?... eat them? show them? just scare the kids with them?

They don't have names... We had 16 of them, but a few have died. They don't live too long, but the beauty is, they lay eggs &, once dried out, they can be "hatched" so creating a 2nd generation & so on.

The kids are not scared by them!

I have joked we could do a Triops stir-fry..

They're a great talking point for visitors - Triassic creatures in 2008!!
