Have a few newly fitted back boxes and with the lip that sits on the face of the plasterboard it keeps my faceplates out from the wall (scolmore grid pro metal with a plastic back to them) so it’s either cut them or fit metal back boxes, so thought to ask on here if anyone had cut 5he lip off ?

score round the box with a knife and create a "trench" about 3mm deep for the lip to sit in then the accessory should sit flush

That's exactly what I've done in the past before. You can then paint the lip to blend in with the rest of the wall if you want.

If you cut the lip off, the back box could fall behind the plasterboard when you install it or replace the accessory in the future.

Can’t fall as I cut a square out of the plaster behind it(house was sheeted over years back when council decided to renovate)

You can get flush mount back boxes where they have no lip but instead you screw through wings with drywall screws to secure them.
