I'm not sure if this should be here (but it didn't fit the other areas...honest)

I am (trying) to build a nursery

The Highways agency say that you have to have 90m visibility in each direction.

This is an existing enterance

Is there any way round this?

TIA

It depends on the way the road runs and where the entrance is.. and the area. Also what type of road you are exiting to. If in doubt get a civil eng to have a look at what you propose.

It is a 30mph counrty road on the edge of a village there is a bend about 120 ft away

I think I am going to get a planning advisor to have a look at it

Thanks

The highways engineer is correct.

From a point 2.4m back from the road, a driver exiting must be able to have unobstructed vision of 90m in each direction. This is for a 30mph road. For busier junctions the 2.4m distance should be increased to 4.5m.

The idea is for safe egress and access at the junction. Even though it is an existing junction, if you are changing use and the traffic is likely to increase, then planning permision will be refused if the junction does not satisfy highway design guidance.

If you cant relocate the junction or get the visibility required by removing tress etc, then I am not aware of any way around this. Except possibly you paying for increased traffic calming methods to the road and bend

Thanks that help to understand why

I can move the entrance to the left (away from the bend) but that it then 60mph area (iyswim) - does that make it worse?
