Asbestos on Cable

Good Afternoon All,

Was asbestos ever used to wrap the outside of cable in Houses or small commercial premises?

I have come across a white cable in what looks like a metre box which I do not want to open unless I can be confident the cable inside is safe.

It could be chalk or talcum powder, both are used when pulling in cables. Photo would help

Why do you think it might have asbestos on it?

I think it was mainly used in High temperature environments, such as water heaters and boilers

And in some switchgear.

Some HV cables?

Have seen asbestos covered cable on immersion heaters

Need more info about this Metre box really, is it to do with the Electric Meter

Yes - his is in a considerably oversized box.
