Our immersion heater has been removed and I have switched off the MCB and terminated the insulated wires in "chocolate block". Please can someone tell me how to remove the MCB from this Ashley Rock CU circa 1996 as I want to make things as safe as possible?.

If you desperately want to remove something from the CU, disconnect the cabling from the CU and remove the cable.

But, as EFLI points out, it may be useful as a socket instead.

Removng an MCB in many CUs means taking the busbar out to free up the MCB. Not something to do unless you are familiar with consumer units and the risks involved.
And then you'll have a gap in the front of the board and exposed live parts.
Then you'll need to buy a blanking plate.....

Leave that MCB in place. Its not doing any harm.
