314 for, 291 against.

This is for England and Wales. Scotland has its own bill which passed initial vote in May 2025, 70 for 56 against.

I feel sorry for the poor sods who will spend their last "good" days trying to navigate it.

It's going to remain very contentious, understandably so, and not helped by the fact the second vote was much closer.

I think its great this debate is being had and a bill brought to parliament and has gone through.

I don't think it's going to help many people though, but the potential is at least in place.

NHS routinely put people on a pathway to dying already

It's a bonkers concept, i.e. voluntarily ending ones' life prematurely, when we are pre-programmed to survive. That said, intense and unending pain can be remarkably persuasive.

I think it's the right decision, we should be able to choose, no one should be in unnecessary pain.

I dont disagree with that argument, but, my feeling is that the philosophical arguments around death dont match up with practical real life.

my Mum had a severe stroke and she spent 9 months in hospital before going to a nursing home, I visited multiple times a week and visited ward full of the very elderly, often there were patients just lying in a foetus position on their beds, ankles all purple from poor circulation, just lying there moaning

elderly people do get to a point where they have no quality of life and our system denies them a dignified death.

Now I know that these scenarios wont be changed by this bill, but it does give hope we might one day have a better process.

I'm still undecided, I'm not sure what is for the best to be honest.

"can we kill granny off before august as our world cruise is coming up?"

I jest but these scenarios could occur
But surely the doctor will say no don't be stupid?

I'm all in favour of the principle. I would definitely like the option.
