Hi,
I'm currently building an attached garage on the land at the side of my house.
I'm currently out of ground and floor is poured with walls being started on Monday.
I'm now planning ahead and need to source a lintel for my garage door. the rear can be concrete over the door/window as it will be rendered but the front is in engineering to match the existing house brick, therefore can't use a concrete lintel.
the door is 8ft, call it 2.5m (including the frame) there will be plenty of pillar space to allow the for 150mm over hang. I'm hoping to sit the timber wall plate ontop of the lintel and fill the lintel with some brick to face it. as I am limited in height for the roof and want to keep my pitch as steep as possible. the garage is 3.4mX8m and has a pitched roof(2 faces, front and rear) with a gable to the side not adjoined. the front aspect of the garage will be done in eng brick(73mm) and inner skin in solid block. there is no cavity, this is a solid 9" wall.
What lintel do you reccommend? and is there anywhere in the Liverpool area that supplies them?
I have access to a steel fabricators through work, I was wondering if it was possible to give them the dimensions required and let them fab one up, or are there certain requirements for a lintel?
Thanks in advance I hope I've given all the info required.
