Afternoon all.

I apologise in advance if this has been asked before but I didn’t try a search before posting.

I have a back-boiler system in my 1970’s house which supplies my hot water and my central heating. As of last night I had neither. The boiler does not seem to be “firing up” on command. It just has the pilot light burning.

I quickly eliminated the thermostat by shorting it out so it gave a constant close circuit which should under normal operation start the system. This did not work and before I give up and call a plumber I was hoping if you people could give me a few other ideas on what to try. I hope that it is just the boiler not receiving the signal to “fire up” but if it is the boiler then I understand that it could be more serious.

My timer seems to be working ok, I haven’t tested it fully yet as I am unsure of how it is wired ( if when I get home I post the model numbers of the timer and boiler could someone supply a circuit diagram?) but the internal relays seem to be switching correctly when requested.

I am an electrical engineer but as you can tell im no plumber. Please help!

Thanks in advance

Get back to us with make/type of Back Boiler Unit first. Depending on make there's a few simple things to check before 'all electrical' on us.

If there is power to the gas valve and no gas then the valve is faulty. As the gas vlave is last in sequence u need to start eliminating whats getting power etc..

Although i had power to a gas valve once and didint open so got a new valve and it still didint work

I swapped the board and it worked so must have a been a current issue not being enough but showing 230v etc...
