Backup generator

hey chaps,

got a generator on a site that if mains power cuts out then the genny cuts in and supplies.

Anyways anybody know what the 2 symbols are coloured RED in the picture??

The I is manual startup, the O is manual stop. I need to know which is auto start (and where control knob needs to be left at) and what the other means. There is no instructions anywhere on site.

For anybody thats interested is a Atlas Copco QAS 38

I presume that if you set the knob towards the red symbol it will be in automatic transfer mode.

the symbols are seperate, they are not together its just the way i have drawn it (badly) LOL
And its which 1 of these symbols i need to select for the auto mode

it is a diesel engine and its a big bit of gear.

no instruction manual available? should be one left there for the customer.. ask them... they might have it in the office..


at a guess, the bottom one is auto start as it has symbols for a transfomer ( ie mains )and generator with bi-directional arrows.. indicating changeover.

Outrageous - all you want is someone to email you the relevant manual, or fax the relevant page etc.

They could possibly be elongated squares.
H'mm. Think we'll have to have a discussion about this on GD.

hey chaps,

if anybody is interested I finally got to speak to a helpful chap at Atlas Copco today

basically, top symbol (rectangle with arrow pointing to top right) is for Remote Start. But you have to physically push or start the remote switch where ever it may be

Bottom symbol (circles, arrows and G) is an Automatic Mains Failure option. This monitors the building incoming supply and should it drop out then the genny auto starts to supply the building.

The chap said it's an older system that usually aint used anymore and he spend ages looking for the info for me. He normally only has bother with digital controls LOL
So just if any of you have the same prob
