Whys it gonna go bang then.I have seen what they call Matchbox transformers a similar size and the only ones i ever replaced had gone open circuit

Matchbox drivers ? ?, how about the LED "constant current driver that was no more than a polyester capacitor, diode and resistor in series with the LEDs and across the output a zener diode to limit and an electrolytic capacitor to smooth the supply fed to the LEDs.

they are far from common, but do exist, the ones I have come accross have always been from shop display cabinets for some reason.
Just as 12V GU10 bases exist.
