I can't vouch for the make but they must be as good as (if not better than) nutool.

Have you seen the 750va ones at B&Q for £39. I know its a bit s***te but how can they make/sell them for that price?

because, as you say, they're 5h . . . pure 5h. But for single-use applications like DIYers need they are ideal. Disposable generators lol.

Same reason B&Q sell hose 5h radial arm saws and those 5h belt sanders etc. Single use tools. Terrible waste though. They ought to have a hire service - hire out GOOD tools.

Whilst agreeing with that sentiment - I've been suprised how well some the cheap tools last. I've got a B&Q £20 router, £39 SDS drill and a Wickes £20 angle grinder - all originaly bought for projects and subject to far more use (and abuse) than ever expected. the SDS drill has just finished chiseling out 6 fence post concrete bases and the angle grinder is 15 years old now and has seen me through an MG restoration, a two storey extension and numerous other car/house jobs, in fact aside from the cordless hammer drill it must be one of the most used of my power tools.

So whilst they might not stand up to commerical use, it's they are not really a single use as they seem to be lasting me a lifetime.

A petrol genny will be fine, and there is already petrol and stuff in the garage.

The garage is remote from the house. Just need to work out how to get the exhaust gasses outside now

JUST BOUGHT A NUTOOL GENNY FROM FOCUS FOR £20.ITS A 2 STROKE, 0.65kVA,ONLY PROBLEM NOW IS I CANT AFFORD THE PETROL TO GO IN IT.

Cheaper to run, too. As it's not a vehicle, you can use red diesel, cooking oil, anything that it will take, quite legally.

You also get 110v and electric start which means you could configure it for auto change over.

Auto changeover is unnecessarily expensive if it's just for a house.

I want to do the same as RF, but am hoping to pick up a cheap-ish 5kVA jobbie. Plan to install some separate circuits via a changeover switch - some lights, boiler, F/F, kettle/microwave, maybe a couple of sockets for TV etc....

The old man is on the look of for a diesel, noty just because he can get red, but you can store it for yonks, whereas with petrol, open your your tank after a year or two and...

RF, my brother has one, he says good for occasional use.

However, there is a fella who arrives in Burley - in - Wharfdalw about this time of year with a van stuffed full on gennies!!!!!!

Good quality, strangely cheap???? but a mate bought one off him and uses it continuously and has never failed, about 3 years old now.

He got the fella down to £50

If he shows up shall I pick you one up???

This is the trouble with people who reply to old posts.

I bought a generator not long after writing this thread nearly a year and a half ago.

FYI, it works fine, although I would advise anyone elso to buy bigger than 2.2kVA. It is a little underpowered for our essentials in powercuts and the like.
