Hi guys

Just a question regarding pipe work in the bath room.

What would you say is the best method. Chase into the wall, under the floor boards or above floor.

It's a ground floor bathroom and want to plumb in the new suite soon.
I was thinking of running the new pipes under the floor boards and using compression joints but not sure if this is a safe option with potential leaks going undetected.

Other open would be to run around the wall about floor or chase into the wall.

Hi Newboy,

Are compression joints really that unsafe?

Use polythene pipe below floorboards. No joints.

The problem you've got with compression is that if the joint is disturbed (for example, the pipework is moved above floor or rotated as you tighten another fitting) you'll never know about it until the leak becomes evident elsewhere.

Pushfit pipework is one solution (as @jeds) but you need to avoid sharp bends - especially as you change direction to come up above floor level.

Plastic pipework below floor can (occasionally) become a target for rodents.

Use copper with yorkshire joints and insulation under the floorboards. The vast majority of houses in this country are done this way and have no problems. Plastic requires large radius bends which can be difficult when going from the horizontal to the vertical. Also big ugly transition adapters.
