no need to scratch, your BG pal took out a working BBU (its age,performance etc etc is of no importance at the minute)

and fitted it, in your property 36 hours ago

has he notified his work to GSR ?, if not he may as well have worked for Primark or WH Smiths, its as big a cowboy job that i have heard of for a couple of years.

Just an odd question thats all, and he is not my pal.

I will contact them tomorrow about my problem, assuming they are not working at the weekend as my problem is not an emergency.
And why that would make him a cowboy is beyond me. My description of a cowboy maybe different to yours but in my experience, a cowboy has 2 main faults, little or no experience and little or no qualifications.

You need to get out in the real world and see some of the sh#te and dangerous stuff your fellow registered guys are fitting using current boilers are getting away with. Thats where your real concern should be and not on a secondhand appliance being fitted.
So are you not going to put definition of illegal then regards this boiler and what criminal charges would be brought against the installer who the guy has says was registered

I am sorry for jumping on the band wagon, but I agree totally here. My next door neighbour had a nightmare with is recent combi installation, he is a registered builder also, so its not just innocent OAP's getting the brunt of rough work. He showed me around after the job was done, I know speed fit is used on a wide basis in building but after what he was charged, I would have though it would have been soldered copper at least. I know its off topic but I am glad I didn't have his hassle!

It is against the current legislation of our trade (ILLEGAL) to fit a non condensing boiler unless you are unable to do so due to a strict criteria.
I am in the real world and fix dodgy/inept installs all the time but that still does not mean fitting second hand non criteria meeting boilers fit for purpose or other wise is right as it is ILLEGAL.
Now for the last time the OP has stated that he knows its illegal and would have had different if it were not for the missus (HIS WORDS).
Stop clutching at straws from the corner you backed yourself in and tell me from a self respecting installers point of veiw where i am wrong and you are right!!

hi dont normally reply to these posts.but yes scotland was allowed to fit conventional boilers a year later than england and wales.yes his installers should have fixed the problem.and yes it is technically an illiegall installation.but at the end of the day this boiler will outlast any combi.all parts are still available as this boiler will probably be a 552 electronic.which if youre really a time served engineer you will know about!this guy asked for advice.not a fight about corgi/gas safe regulations.and i know we all hate illegal fitters but i also hate youre so called engineers who do a six week course and think cos they know the regulations there engineers.they know nothing and several of you guys will know who you are.if this is the electronic boiler as i suspect,it will have the pump cycle built in to it.which means it will regularly spin the pump to keep it free.if it is what is known as "council wiring"that means the pump is wired live to the motorised valves and gas valve.so if pump is activted.boiler will fire.easy way to check is to manually open valves.if boiler fires.that is your problem.cheers.Andy
