just had a cooker installed an the installer used a normal back plate elbow is this allowed? my previous house had a female ion like this one

Backplate elbows are female iron.

OP. Those are not normlly any good, as they are likely to impinge and stop the cooker fitting fully back. This is the "correct" fitting IMHOj:

Either fitting will be acceptable. Use whichever suits the installation.
