i hear theres a new beer called Coors extra cold. Coldest beer in the world ever. Apparently it has crystals of ice floating in it, its that cold. Sounds very nice. Has anyone had it yet?

Now i have a couple of questions about extra cold beers. How do they know that they pub will keep the beer extra cold? Surely the barrel is just stored in the same coldroom as the rest of the barrels? Or is there specialist equitment involved in the delivery to the tap? I saw a Stella tap once which had about half an inch of ice all around it, could this have something to do with it? cooled taps or pipelines? Wouldnt this be awfully expensive?

Cant wait for beer icepops now theres an idea!

I don't think its much to do with cellars where lager is concerned.

In some pubs you see regular and extra cold versions of the same drinks. I thought both drinks come from the same source, the regular version going through one chiller whilst the extra cold version goes through a second one.

I also thought the chillers were now smaller faster affairs which were near to the point of delivery.

I think extra cold beer goes through a doubler cooler.Beer ice pops ain't all that ,unless the beer is un-drinkable in it's naturaul form Tenents extra ,red stripe

it is the "tap" that is very very cold, so cold they havetheir own drip tray for the condensation, when i first saw one i thought it was a fake, untill i touched it (as you do)

Well if it looks cold it is probaubly cold

There is a flash cooler, usually under the bar to make it 'extra' cool. IMHO you lose the taste with the coldness.

I thought it was some extra ingredient they added to the beer? Something to trick your brain into thinking it was colder?

When you go to the supermarket you buy warm bottles of beer off the shelf that you take home and cool yourself.
These warm bottles of beer still have the words "EXTRA COLD" on them even though the bottles are warm.
I once drank a warm bottle of extra cold beer and it seemed to have a strange menthol taste added to it.

Nor do I, detest the stuff, devils ****.... beyond me why so many people like it

Now...spirits based drinks (or neat spirits when you get drunk enough for the burning sensation of drinking them to become numbed!) and the odd cider are much more sensible drinks

ohhh, you were the one that said something about real beer being warm and flat or something, a while ago . . . THAT sounds horrible. I only ever drink lager.

someone said something about a menthol taste. this makes sense. when you eat mints, your mouth feels "cold" in a way doesnt it! Carling extra cold tastes more like john smiths IMO. It does loose some taste. Carlsberg - probably the best lager in the world

No - I didn't say that, and never have.

No beers should be flat (that I've ever encountered anyway), and apart from mulled ones, none should be warm, although a great many should not be heavily chilled.

I only ever drink lager.

THAT sounds horrible.

But it does give me a good reason to include this:

Carlsberg - probably the best lager in the world
