Well it certainly seemed to go down well at the Ceremony at the time..but your right the media did pounce...possible not because of the PC angle but maybe because the the human interest side....half the country would have paid good money to see Norman Lamont Publicly fisted!
Your right though remark may not have done him any favours but I feel his career was on the skids (oooeer mrs!!) by then anyway...it seemed to be more of an image revamp as opposed to a comeback (more oooeers!!)
Now if I can just incorporate a one liner on the lines of the 'Police kicking in Mr Higginbottoms back door and tearing up his back passage' into this I will have the full house!
