Hi there, I've inherited BFT electric gates on my house and this morning they wouldn't open. Hasn't rained, fob seems ok (lights up as usual) but when I opened up the control unit I can see it says STOP. Any ideas? Attached is a photos. Really can't afford to be calling someone out so hoping I can fix. Thanks!

Turn it off and back on again....failing that have the the sensors been knocked out of line somehow?

Im no gate expert just thinking of the basics.

Thanks. I tried that. Switched it off and back again. Sensors look ok and don't think anything hit them, etc. As far as I know nothing has changed since they last worked.

Probably best to ask again in home automation, theres some clever people over there who might not look in general discussion.

by "turning off" probably actually means removing all power rather than switching an off switch (although you might have aceived that anyway) leave it a few minutes anyway then "boot it back up" leave it for a few mins again then see if its different - rather like computersc and routers etc.
As said - the lads in the other forums might be more help, this forum is UK electrics both DIY and electricians etc, some might be able to assist but others in another forum might be more suitable for you as well.

let us know how you got on please.its good to know if we have helped and it good to know if a solution was found (or not) :giggle:

2015 there was a report about a child's death due to a poorly fitted gate. From that point most electrical firms refused to fit electric gates, it's not the £50k fine, it's that even a firm specialising in fitting them, can easily get it wrong.

Bottom right may be a battery, and may need unplugging to reset, but likely you will need to revert to manual operation. The problem is both opening and closing there are often trap points, so there has to be a manual release, which means the gates are not secure.

What ever is wired into 71 the stop input ….or the wire to bypass the stop is loose
