Black cladding / anyone charred their own?

just incase anyone's interested in future, I ended up cladding it in those Coroline bitumen sheets, and only doing a bit of my own charring on the window reveal boards (cheapo PAR pine - looks good and will see how long it lasts). One thing I realised was to do this at any scale would require some serious supplies of propane (or MAP in my case as I use it for plumbing). Must have used nearly a full cylinder in the end - I know it doesn't look like much! Happy with the result anyway

I’m planning to do a similar thing for a garden cabin project. I love the Shou Sugi Ban look but wasn’t sure if I should try doing it myself or go with pre-charred boards. I'm particularly interested in its durability. The cabin I'm working on will be exposed to all kinds of weather — heavy rain, snow, and intense sun — so I need something that will stand up to it.
I came across a company called TimberSol that sells pre-charred cladding and it looks pretty solid, but I’m still weighing whether it’s worth the cost compared to DIY. Has anyone here gone the pre-charred route? Just trying to figure out what’s more realistic in terms of time and finish quality.
