We are having our house done throughout and we are going to be fitting insulation in the joists downstairs, the plasterer has suggested we board the ceiling with plywood before plasterboarding it. He said this is a great insulator. What are peoples thoughts to this and has anyone hear of this?

We don't tend to see it in cavitity walls or above ceilings so I doubt it is a good an insulator as claimed.

Infact I doubt it is as good as a sheet of plasterboard

You plasterer must be thinking of something like aerodeck - 5mm ply with 50 or 70mm of insulation board glued on the back  I looks like ply from one side. lol

I'd want to keep my eye on the plasterer after that comment

Probably to make it easier for him to fix his plasterboard if the existing joists don't suit the plasterboard sizes ;)
