They are probably well aware of the safety aspect, but only so far as knowing not to touch the gas connection or fiddle with the gas valve. They are oblivious of other safety-related matters such as removing the case etc.
Snorkels, compensator tubes, venturis, overheat stats, condensate tubes.
All vital components with no obvious effect on safety to the unpracticed and unequipped. Nothing on Google would necessarily help.
