Boilers,Boilers,Boilers!!!

Boiler manufacturers have their own agenda. If a DaftyDIYer takes out the entire street, then regardless of the fatalities, then that's 20-30 new boiler sales!! Again, if someone kills an old Granny with co it's just another new boiler sale to them.

Can you find me a person or company who doesn't have their own agenda, there must be one.

Not a lot of use buying all those boilers, I doubt you'd find many walls to hang them on..

Well then, the DIYers have all of the information that they need to sort their boiler out don't they? They don't need advice from here. I think you will find that each boiler manual does have a paragraph or two stating clearly that gas installations should be carried out by suitably qualified persons, so they are off the hook.

Of course they have the information, they dont have the diagnostic skill and thats why they come here.....thats why i first came here. I dont understand why anyone who doesnt want to help is here though. Its not all one way traffic though, I like to pick up problems and solutions on faults I rarely see in the area I work in, thats why i'm here.
I'm happy to put a competence disclaimer in my footer.

A bit of a difference between help with a sink trap & wiping out your entire family after f.cking about with your boiler flue!!!! The average DaftyDIYer doesn't have the intellect, skill, knowledge, experience, tools or test equipment to go near a boiler, any boiler!! Like all modern gas engineers I use a bang up to date calibrated £500 flue gas analyser on EVERY boiler I touch. Do these DIYers have this sort of equipment? Do the Mods know if they have this sort of equipment?

Need to get a gas version made up(y):D

Absolutely puller, a similar sized difference to having the knowledge of what a fault is likely to be in your head and deciding to tackle it yourself or call someone in depending on your skill level. I don't advocate diy boiler work, construction, gene development, veterinary science etc etc but I would totally defend your right to learn the theory if you wanted to.

All well and good on a one to one basis. But you never know what bell end will take what is written out of context and do something stupid.
When I was last incapacitated from work and manned the call backs on the technical desk, even talking one to one sometimes with RGIs they took 3/4 tellings before getting things right.
So actually thinking a layman using drawings without proper safety equipment will get it right will be a big ask.
So before starting I'm sure they carried out their electrical checks for their own safety, safely isolated the boiler, effected repair, re carried out electrical checks, then if it was a part that could effect combustion, carried out gas rate, inlet pressure, FSD test and flue gas analysis all per manufacturers instructions?
Oh wait the chap or chappess carrying out the repair is car salesman so doesn't have the proper test equipment or know how.

I agree about lack of skill, knowledge, experience, tools and test equipment; but intellect? Are you suggesting that most "DaftyDiyers" are thick?

Would you contemplate changing the gas valve on your boiler DH?
Now think very carefully before answering...

Thats my point, there are useless registered gas technicians and brilliantly skilled diyers.

Lol if you were on a big major technical helpdesk I suspect the vast majority of those you were advising missed most of those checks out aswell, too busy chasing the correct amount of work output per day to carry out safety sadly

Oh wait the chap or chappess carrying out the repair is car salesman so doesn't have the proper test equipment or know how.

Well one of my current businesses is selling vans......

I think I just prefer the old European version of freedom of speech and the majority here prefer the Chinese version, each to their own.

Yes!!! Without question.
