Hi folks,

I have had a Bosch hammer action drill for more than 10 years now.
Its been on it last legs for a while - reverse broke about two years ago.

The chuck has never been great on it.
It's the kind that you press the button and twist to tighten the bit.

This evening it started to sheer bits. I suspect the chuck isn't fully tightening and that is what is causing the problem, but I am not sure.

Any advice before I start shopping for a new one :).

Umm, best advice is shop for a new one this year, rather than next. I've replaced my Dewalt drill for a new one, and it's lighter and more powerful. Best thing I did in a long time.

In terms of a replacement.

I was thinking of getting a good battery drill, but am worried it won't be up to drilling Masonry. I have another B&D Drill for lighter jobs, so the new one would need to be up to drilling holes in Masonry.

Should I stick to a wired one, any recommendations?

What sort of masonry and how often? Current cordless drills are up to the job of all but the most dense compacted concrete. And with a new bit, will manage a few 8mm holes for the likes of brown plugs in hard concrete.
