When i brake or gear down the engine cuts out. its been coming on gradually for some months and now its a constant. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Do you actually have a car, or is this only happening when playing the PS2?

you have to remove the plenium (top of the engine) the airfilter housing from the side and the manifold from the front of engine, as the throttle bod is inside this.should take bout 2hrs to strip, 10mins to clean an 2hrs to reassemble

Thanks for the the details . It looks formidable and there dont seem to be any of the usual repair books available for Lupo's. However something must be done as it's getting worse by the day!

I had this same problem on a 1999 Vauxhall Astra 1.8. The engine management light didn't come on (which I thought was strange). The garage replaced the coil pack - problem solved. They did say the air flow meter gave a low reading on start up, but I haven't had this replaced yet - thankfully!!

sorry for the delay. just to say that the problem was exactly as you guys suggested. a mechanic cleaned it out for £30. thanks all.
