Hi there,

I am new to this forum, and would love some advice about my house.

I have a Semi detached house that has Block built between the 2 houses and brick and block on the other side with a garage conversion, that has been extended to meet the back of the house.

The front and back of the house has brick foundations but then it is wood posts going up with wooden weatherboard covering to the outside. (no brick or blockwork). Firstly i was wondering what this type of build is called, and secondly i want to know if these walls can be bricked up, with brick and block.

I would really appreciate any info at all. I do my own diy inside the house all the time, but have no real knowledge of building work and would like to know my best options, before consulting a professional

Thanks

It could be cross wall construction which was popular in the mid 60's to early 70's, so called as the roof weight was taken by the gable and party walls. Some people do brick them up, but it's best to do both houses together.

Hi

thanks for the help. I understand it's better to do both but unfortunately that won't be happening. :x

Really though i just wondered, and it has been suggested to me that typically these houses wouldn't have strong enough foundations to be bricked up.

The thing is that the house has terrible insulation throughout and against the cost of having all this work done, i think i would rather have it just bricked up, and any way i think i just prefer it, somehow it feels weird and insecure knowing the only thing between me and the outside it just plasterboard and weatherboard :?

Cheers
