Britain formally recognises Palestinian state

They made it clear they would only accept one state, from the river to the sea, a state without Jews in it.
Bullshit...

As you've said (selectively), 'prior to the Oslo Accords', which is of course the last attempt...

Before that all the Palestinians were offered was a situation where the zionist terrorists were rewarded with Palestinian land and Palestinians effectively became a population of mass refugees...

And that land has been gradually further stolen over the years...

The fact that israel then never proceeded along the route laid out in the Oslo Accords and continuing expansion of settlements led to the violence thereafter...

Maybe the Telegraph paywall does something to mess up the link.

The poll asked a rather bizarre question. It asked whether people would support recognition of a Palestine state without a ceasefire and hostage deal. I wonder if respondents had been prompted that it was Israel who tore up the ceasefire and hostage deal, they would have answered differently. Do they realise that one of the aims of recognition is to pressure Israel into agreeing another ceasefire and hostage deal.
I don't feel it was a bizarre question at all - I have argued long before Oct 7th that there should be a two state solution, split Israel into two parts and they can have a bit each (just crazy them living amongst each other)

However, imho Hamas need to be destroyed and the hostages returned before we head towards that 2 state arrangement. Starmer has now turned this vile act by Hamas into a victory, they are being rewarded - what message does this send out to any terrorist organisation anywhere? Terrorism Pays?

Why does Starmer to get everything so wrong - I thought he would have been good for our country, I wanted him to win - but a disastrous PM he is turning into...

The question should be what message does it send to an intransigent government which breaks every ceasefire and keeps bombing defenceless people. Many people who usually support Israel, including huge numbers of Jews worldwide, are appalled at what Netanyahu is doing. Which is why Israel is losing the support of other countries.

About time the UK recognised Palestine.
Don't understand why people in the UK see Palestinians as some sort of threat to the UK.
They may be a threat to Israel but as far as I know Israel is a country in the Middle East .
The theory advanced by the anti Palestinian faction that the people of Palestine are some sort of existential threat to the UK, and that Israel must take all steps necessary to neutralise that threat , in order to save not just Israel but the UK and the West in general, is IMHO a load of bollix.
If anyone could make a convincing argument to support this theory , then I would be the first to support any necessary to eliminate the threat from the Palestinian people.

Is that the theory that Israel is somehow protecting Europe from hordes of Muslim fundamentalists. I would also welcome a good explanation of how that works.

On that fateful day of oct the 7th - I unfortunately stumbled on one of those horror videos released by hamas of what they were doing to those beautiful young people attending a music concert - I will never be able to unwatch that video. And then the following day there was those images of the terrorists returning to gaza with the hostages, welcomed on mass by crowds of Palestinians as if they were welcoming home a football team that had won the FA cup

And now hamas are getting what they set out to achieve - a victory by any other name.

Why not ask the other Muslim countries of the Middle East, who refuse to take any Palestinian refugees? Maybe they know something you don't. Only three countries ever accepted Palestinians, and it didn't work out too well for them, especially Jordan when the PLO waged a terrorist war against them and attempted to steal their entire country.

But the argument is that somehow Israel is preventing the Palestinians moving to Europe. How does that work?

Well, it's doing the opposite at the moment (if Palestinians were ever to leave the country) but the idea is that Israel serves as an extension to the West, and as the Middle East is the source of the majority terror threat to the West we need them there to have any influence on what happens in the region. Unfortunately their recent 'exuberance' means that the terror threat is probably greater now than when this whole thing started.

Netanyahu has been supporting the funding of Hamas for years

We need to tell the truth,” Israeli major general Gershon Hacohen, an associate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said in a 2019 TV interview. “Netanyahu’s strategy is to prevent the option of two states, so he is turning Hamas into his closest partner. Openly Hamas is an enemy. Covertly, it’s an ally.”

The flip side argument is that it is only the existence of the State of Israel which caused all the terrorism in the first place.
