British Gas trainees and wages

This makes interesting reading. I wish I could tell you the right thing to do. I started at BG in 1978 and took VR in 97 with a 23K pay off to go and work for myself. Never looked back as I don't work Fridays or weekends, make a decent living and enjoy work far more. I was taught to repair boilers, and at BG at the end was told to more or less lie and say it can't be repaired, noise isn't covered by contract, we don't strip them down just telegan them, etc. Went to fit a divertor on an old combi and we were told the engineer who ordered the part would always get the part back to fit. The previous engineer had put the job in for three wks ahead 2pm in the afternoon when she was at the dentist and wouldn't get the part back to fit. Left the cust no heat and hot water 3 weeks just so they didn't have to go back. Field manager wouldn't ******* her as she was a girl. Put in for VR that day. Divide and conquer.

Yea, I know what you mean, Id love to start on my own, and I feel Id be very very fair and honest with my customers, I think I could do really well working for myself.

Just dont feel confident in the expirience Ive got, espesially what little you get with BG, Teleganing + sales basically,

I mean I am pretty confident fixing boilers/systems now, and its a game your always gonna be learning in anyway.

More like I dont know how a non contract based gas company works.

Like if you get called out for an intermittent fault, do you charge for an hours labour if it doesnt lock out or whatever when your there etc

Bertie.......you have me gutted  .....I could`ve gone on the gas board in 1970.....but thought it was boring fitting iron pipes + cookers so went plumbing instead  .....That kind of VR would`ve paid my mortgage , without the shares and all the rest   Pass the Luger
