Budget

When the min wage gos up its not just the actual min wage its also all of those wages where the employer pays just above min wage leading to inflation.
Agree

The problem is the gaps between the pay levels.

It's a shame that a MINIMUM wage is needed

I asked AI Al: do happier countries pay higher tax on average?

His survey said: Yes, there is a strong correlation showing that the world's consistently happiest countries tend to have higher average taxes. These nations use their tax revenues to fund robust social welfare systems and public services, which contribute to high life satisfaction.

I am on min wage guys. Its not easy. It should be changed to a living wage for a start. And also up the tax threshold.

Yes, things will suffer outside of that but, its ALWAYS the low paid that suffer the most! We are shat upon again and again. Things need to change...

20k tax threshold is needed and I think that is in the plan as the new digital tax system will require all self employed to forward their tax stuff quarterly but only if you earn over 20k in a couple of years.

When private equity squeeze more and more profit out of businesses, consumers pay more and the money goes into assets held by the wealthy.

Why are min wages going up?
A = because people can’t afford to live.

Why can’t people afford to live
A = because capitalism keeps putting up prices; rent, mortgages, electricity, gas, water, railways, food etc etc

Look at the price of food…..it’s gone up, a huge amount, sure costs have increased but why is Tescos making number profits

Vote for Reform if you want private businesses to make even more money

Wise words.

Unfortunately Reform would make the rich richer…..so what happens to the poor?

I suspect quite a few folk would be ok with paying more tax IF it was effectively utilised and resulted in us seeing a tangible improvement in public services, infrastructure etc.

The (in my opinion very justified) concern is we could pour more tax into the coffers, however much of it will be wasted and/or go towards initiatives that many of the masses don't want. And our services etc will still be sh1te.

I agree with minimum wage not being enough.
I also agree that prices just go up as the wage goes up so it doesn't give any real benefit.

What's needed is to close the gap between pay levels so people can live on what they earn, not just exist

Surely you can see that levelling minimum wage for 18 year olds puts them out of work?
so its good they havent done that

so Motobiking is complaining that min wage is going up by 4.1% and 8.5%

I dont see Motorbiking complaining that CEO median pay in 2024 increased by 15.4% from 2023

are CEOs working harder in any way shape of form?

Here's a breakdown of the growth in CEO pay:
  • 2020: Median pay was
    £2.46£ 2.46
    million

  • .
  • 2021: The median pay increased by 39% to
    1764154299691.gif

million. This was the highest level since 2018.

  • 2022: Median pay continued to rise, reaching
    1764154299701.gif
    £3.91£ 3.91
million, an increase of 16% from 2021.

  • 2023: The median pay for a FTSE 100 CEO saw another significant increase, though specific figures for 2023 aren't available in this data set, the growth from 2022 suggests continued upward pressure on pay.

    £4.22£ 4.22
million, a 15.4% increase from 2023, according to the High Pay Centre.

Again more moaning from you - but no solution
Tell us how you would put it right

18 year olds will be on nearly 11 quid, mmmmm not too sure about that one
No they won't, they'll be unemployed as nobody will be able to afford to pay them.

Or at best they'll just employ someone older and more experienced for next to nothing extra.

This is Rachelism at its worst. She thinks that if she raises the minimum wage they'll get more in income tax, it's not about making lives better but about her wonky non-economist method for attempting to balance the books. Utterly stupid, it will backfire massively.

If this really is a good idea then why not just raise the minimum wage to £100/hour. Then everyone will be rich, the govt will take tons of income tax and the deficit will go away. Can halfwit lefties really not see a problem with this sort of thinking?
