Build A NZ -UK Power Lead

Where I am at the moment is that I have got a lead with NZ plug on one end and IEC C13 on the other. I decided on that because I already have a long C13/ C14 lead so that will connect to the mains, then I have a C14 lead that I can wire into a 6 way trailing socket.

That way, I can have a long lead or a shorter one.

I ordered a 6 way block from Amazon that said it was surge protected but when it arrived it wasn't. But it is fuse protected. Ideally, I'd like surge protection, but I can't find a surge protected trailing socket with fuse protection. I will put a 5A fuse in the trailing socket so the 0.75 flexes won't get overloaded. Even though the industry fit appliance plugs with 13A fuses where the flex is 0.75.

So I may compromise and keep the 6 way trailing socket I already have.

Edited for clarity.

Does that really concern you? What sort of things is it going to be used to supply (although, IMHO,, even that doesn't matter much!!).

Kind Regards, John

Possibly a laptop.
All I can say is that that would not worry me.

However, views abut such things obviously differ - and change - [ some of those who, not so long ago, asserted that surge protection was 'snake oil' are now promoting it :-) ]

Just wanted to drag this out of retirement to belatedly thank people for their help with my extension leads.

I made up two for NZ, a 4 way and a 6 way strip, both without surge but having a neon, an on/ off switch and a fuse holder.

I did fit a 5A fuse to limit the current as all leads are 0.75.

I've used it hundreds of times, not just for NZ, but for all the weekends we have gone away. Travel Inns and Premierlodges often don't have sockets by the bedhead (???) or they are on the wrong side, so I bring a kettle lead, the 5m extension and a "strip", then I am prepared for any eventuality.

The beauty of this system is that you can go to whatever country you like and just get a kettle lead with that type plug and swap it out.

No messing around with fiddly adaptors and no rewiring plugs.

I'm currently in Lille using it with a Unischuko lead

I once bought a few AU plugs to make some extension leads for 6 gang BS trailing sockets for my daughter and gave her strict instructions to change all her fuses to 10A fuses (I gave her a few packs of them later) , a few months later I asked her if she had fittend them "No need Dad, they all still work with the 13A ones left in!" . Well I tried,
No it will not make much difference, if any, in the real world and the main thing is she did follow my advice of not actually have many amps running at the same time.

I must admit of all of the plugs and sockets I have ever used then I do favour the good old UK ones (I might be biased though!) ;)
