Just submitted a building notice on Thursday for some internal alterations. They required 2 days notice. I stated on the form that I intend to start on Monday (tomorrow). Can I start the work without them first inspecting, or do I have to wait for them to come - in fact will they come? Haven;t spoken to them about it yet though, as I want to start ASAP tomorrow.

Start the work then ring and ask them to inspect once you are at a relevant inspection stage.

Better still, call them now and find out when they'd like to inspect. If you submitted very little information with your Building Notice then they may want to discuss the works with you on commencement.

Thanks - Yes, I submitted very little - just said inernal alterations to kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

I have only just started today - nothing major at present, just removing plasterboard from studwork.

I am actually creating a new habitable space, and so I will give them a call in the morning, cos I want to get it right. Hopefully they will be over some time tomorrow!!

I will be doing some new studwork - current studwork has nails - I'd like to use screws - is there any reason why this is a bad idea?

...Only for the poor bloke who may need to remove it in the future.
