Hi there, i am looking for a good book or online resource which i could use to make sure everything i do with my build complies to building regs.

Can anyone recommend a decent book i could buy which has all the building regs detailed or maybe an online resource that i could use?

Thanks

(P.s i already have the Home Extension manul by Haynes)

The approved documents are all you really need, they are by no means the only way to comply with the Building Act, but should really be your starting point as the heading of each section states the requirement and for some things the approved documents will be the minimum requirements accepted by the local authority.

Yes, i have decided to print all of these documents and store in ring binders for a good reference if needed. i think they will be very helpful indeed.

Thanks

Good lord that’s a bit of a waste of paper  ; why not just down load them & use as reference. They do change from time to time as well, far too frequently in recent years if you ask me!

Aye there are probably only about 20 pages out of the lot that are applicable to extensions.

Good idea. I like to have things "to hand" I personally find it a lot easier. When I was at Uni the Building Regs / Approved Docs weren't available online (the web was in it's infancy) and the University library only held 2 copies of the Approved Docs and they were reference only so you couldn't take them out. Was a right royal pain the backside.

Blackwells, the University bookshop, had packs of all the Approved Docs for sale for (and I remember this distinctley because it was a sore point!) £112, which at the time was a ruddy fortune. I was labouring in the holidays and was earning £20 a day!!! Students today - don't know they're born
