buying a vw ,need advice against fraud ect

ok im going to buy or pay for a wv td 2001 golf on wednesday and i want to know mainly :

1, where is the vin number on the chassis?
2, what company or web sites ect can use to determine if a car is stolen or other,, ( plus a number would be helpful)

any other advice would be apresiated too

VIN number will be etched into the bulkhead bottom passenger side of windscreen

no the seller looks to be much more legitimate but i want to still be as careful as posible
