Can anyone shed any light on this waste pipe?

And the metal stud doesn’t even feel like it’s connected to anything as it wobbles all over the place so not a problem cutting that out too

Ah , if you are only gonna have a wash machine then you can fit a standpipe and trap for its waste ,joining the vertical low down with a "T " ,on its side ,the top of the T would take the condensate , higher up.

No your wash machine waste has to go through a trap or the smell from the drains would go into your machine. The condensate goes thru a trap within the boiler. Picture this ... You cut the vertical pipe so about 5 inch up from the bottom elbow. Then fit a T so inlet sticks out the side for wash mac pipework, condensate in the top. Stand pipe and trap to right of your pic and pipe from there to T inlet.

Got ya!

Thank you very much.

Eureka ....ha ha !!!
By the way solvent weld is better than compression fittings as condensate is slightly acidic.
