Hi all

The missus and I are going to be buying some oak ledge doors (cottage/farmhouse style). The planks are 20mm thick and the ledges are an additional 20mm.

We were originally going to go for thumb latches but have now decided we would prefer iron door knobs. We'd prefer to have just knobs rather than knobs with the "black box" (not sure what they are called? Rim locks?).

My question.... Is it going to be possible to have normal door knobs (where the "mechanism" is inside the door)? And if so, what are our options?

Cheers

Max

One option would be to house a lock into an oak block which is then fixed to the door an enables you to either a mortise or rim lock. A tradional way around your problem.
Another option is to buy brass rim locks i.e shiny brass rather than the cheapo looking black type. A tad more expensive mind.
Or, cheapest option yet . A roller catch and knobs screwed to the face that are really just there to pull the door shut.
