My local Wickes still only stock the old colour cables (at end of October).
It's OK to put the warning sticker on the CU, as there is less chance of it being painted over by some bodging diy-er in the future.
As long as you clean the surface of the CU first, the sticker should stick down securely to the CU casing.
Often the surfaces around a fusebox etc, in a dark cellar etc, can be peeling and flaky, and stickers can fall off as a result.
