I genuinely believe that religion has a good role to play in our society. It's a good opportunity for like-minded adults to meet and socialise with each other. Perhaps to act out their charity-minded obligations to others.
It's an excellent medium to socialise children into the values of society. To teach them how to have respect for each other and to obey the rules of society.
When religion ceases to play a reasonable role is when it becomes a dogma, to be recognised above all dogmas.
On another subject: the existence of Jesus or the rise of someone like him (and other prominent people in history).
There is a sociological theory about whether important people in history are born and rise to prominence, or they are created by a need of the society at that time.
