I've just taken this of and tried to fit a light fitting. Which didn't work. I've put back as I thought it was and now the ceiling rose doesn't work. Can anybody tell me what I've done wrong...

Are you sure all the copper wires are connecting to the terminals?
Was the red sleeve definitely on the yellow wire before?

The wiring could be correct but it is impossible to say from here.

Can we have a picture of the wiring in the relevant switch?

The switch on the left as you look at it controls the lights on the ceiling... Definately haven't moved the red sleeve...

I think we were expecting the cable with the red, yellow&blue conductors to have originated at the switch, but it obviously does not.
Is there another light or switch that you have played with?

Do all of the other lights in the house work ok?.

Do you have a two probe tester for mains voltages, or a multimeter?

No haven't played with any other light switches.... No, don't have any Meyers of any kind I'm afraid... Perhaps make sure all wires are connecting properly and compare to others in the house?

Certainly check that the wires in the light you have altered are correct. Make sure none of the conductors have broken off, they sometimes do.

Anything else will need a test meter.

I suggest you do not disturb anything else, it will not help the situation!

compare to others in the house?
No point - they could all look different and work the same, look different and work differently, look the same and work the same or look the same and work differently.

Basically you have to choose between Plan A and Plan B.

PLAN A:
PLAN B:
  • Get an electrician.
There are some irresponsible people here who may tell you that there is a Plan C, which is to start trying different things without really knowing what's going on, hoping to get it working by luck, or by blindly following instructions to put-this-wire-in-that-hole without any idea as to why. Please don't listen to them - you must know what, and truly understand what, you are doing.

Electrical-installation-by-guesswork is a foolish idea.

There is no Plan C for anybody sensible.

Had a similar problem once, turned out the bulb had blown!
